Updated: The House Agriculture Committee on Wednesday morning (May 20) reported out a bill to fully repeal country-of-origin labeling (COOL) for beef, pork and poultry in a vote of 38-6, advancing legislation that proponents say will finally make the U.S. compliant with World Trade Organization rules.

Agriculture Committee Chairman Michael Conaway (R-TX) on Tuesday expressed confidence that the bill will be considered by the full House in early June. Full repeal is opposed by Ranking Member Collin Peterson (D-MN), but the bill is backed by other Democrats on the committee such as Reps. Jim Costa (D-CA) and David Scott (D-GA).
