An interagency group focused on the trade deficit has been added to the roster of Trade Policy Staff Committee subgroups tapped by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to analyze key issues and aid in formulating administration positions, according to a list generated in response to an Inside U.S. Trade Freedom of Information Act request.

The list, dated Nov. 13, was not published by USTR.

Robert Holleyman, a deputy USTR in the Obama administration, said the list “in its totality should be trying to capture everything in every country, every issue that could affect trade and investment within the purview of USTR.”

Two other former Obama administration officials told Inside U.S. Trade the trade deficit subcommittee is new to the Trump administration, which has made reducing trade deficits a top priority.
