Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Tuesday Wednesday President Trump for not taking a tougher approach to trade policy with China despite pledging to do so on the campaign trail, saying he is working with Democrats on legislation that would strengthen trade enforcement – especially as it relates to China.

Schumer, flanked by Sens. Bob Casey (D-PA) and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) at a press conference in the Capitol, said that “since Donald Trump has become president, when it comes to trade, his policies make America look like a 98-pound weakling. He has done virtually nothing.”
“We haven’t seen him do anything, anything against the number one trade predator against the United States, China,” he added.
Accordingly, Schumer said “we’re going to be coming out with a strong trade package as a Democratic caucus soon.”
A source told Inside U.S. Trade that Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) are working on the package together.
Asked for more detail on what the legislative package might contain, Schumer said “we’re not going to tell you what’s in it,” but added that “a lot of it is going to be China-related.”
