Wilbur Ross, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Commerce Department, told the Senate Commerce Committee this week that expanding exports and cutting the U.S. trade deficit are among his top priorities if he is confirmed for the role.

In responses to a questionnaire he received from the committee, Ross addressed questions about his business dealings, potential conflicts of interests and political donations, among other issues.
The questionnaire is a standard part of the process of vetting a candidate for a top administration job. The Senate Commerce Committee’s chairman, Sen. John Thune (R-SD), told Inside U.S. Trade this week he hopes to hold a confirmation hearing for Ross as soon as next week.
