President Barack Obama has promised to protect anyone who gets hammered in next year’s elections for supporting his trade agenda. The Progressive Coalition for American Jobs, which is being advised by Obama campaign alumni at 270 Strategies and trying to build up appeal among the Democratic base, is already starting with a digital ad buy to thank senators who voted for fast-track legislation before leaving Washington last week.

With the fight over trade now moving to the House, the PCAJ will also be advertising in districts where members have already said they’ll support fast-track legislation and the Trans-Pacific Partnership, or are leaning that way.

“We want our elected leaders to know that we appreciate their support for this critical legislation, we have their backs, and we’ll continue to stand with them as the conversation continues around free and fair trade,” said PCAJ executive director Chris Wyant.

The PCAJ puts the total ad buy in the six figures, going statewide in California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Maryland, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Virginia, and Washington state.

“Thank you,” the ad says next to a picture of each senator who voted yes, “for supporting free and fair trade, American workers and the environment.”

The ads are set to run starting Wednesday.
