House Ways & Means Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) has pledged to members of the House Steel Caucus that he will accept the trade remedy law changes championed by Sens. Rob Portman (R-OH) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) in the Senate version of the customs bill when the legislation is conferenced, according to a Ways & Means spokesman.

“This provision is a top priority of the House Steel Caucus, and Chairman Ryan has made a commitment to these members to include it in the House customs and trade enforcement bill,” the spokesman said.
The changes known as the Leveling the Playing Field Act are opposed by some trade associations, agriculture and agribusinesses, who urged Ryan in a May 20 letter to keep these trade remedy law changes out of the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) bill.
