The following statement can be attributed to Michael Stumo, CEO, Coalition for a Prosperous America:
CPA is pleased that Bob Lighthizer was confirmed as the next U.S. Trade Ambassador by an overwhelming bipartisan majority in the US Senate today. Ambassador Lighthizer will bring a new direction of trade realism to his office. He will fill out the full Trump administration trade team in cooperation with Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Peter Navarro, the head of the newly created White House Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy.
CPA looks forward to working with Ambassador Lighthizer and the Trump administration to rebalance trade, with a focus upon manufacturing and agriculture, to create millions of good paying jobs, grow the economy, and spur innovation. Strong trade enforcement is needed as well as new solutions for foreign exchange rate undervaluation and the persistent problem of dollar overvaluation. We also are eager to work with Congress and the administration towards a trade competitive tax reform that includes border adjustable taxes that fund the reduction of other widespread, regressive taxes.
