A new poll of Ohio residents released Friday (April 10) offered an indication that Republicans in the state are generally less supportive of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) than Democrats and showed that Ohio voters will be less likely to support Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) for reelection if he supports TPP or a fast-track bill.

The questionnaire for the poll — which was sponsored by the progressive political action committee Democracy for America — characterized TPP as similar to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and notes that it is being negotiated by the Obama administration. When asked about TPP, only 26 percent of respondents identifying as Republican said they viewed the trade deal as favorable, compared with 43 percent of Democratic respondents.
Overall, out of the 503 surveyed voters, 61 percent of respondents said they viewed such agreements as either somewhat or very unfavorable, compared to 33 percent of respondents who found TPP to be either somewhat or very favorable, according to the poll results.
