President Trump on Monday said “major legislation” on steel, aluminum and dumping is coming “very soon.”

“We’ll be having some major legislation very soon on the dumping of steel in our country – which is absolutely killing our workers and our steel companies,” he said during a cabinet meeting, offering no details. He added a similar comment on aluminum.
U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, attending his first cabinet-level meeting since being confirmed, touted his recent trip to Paris for Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and World Trade Organization meetings, where he said he delivered a similar message.
“It was that [trade] deficits do matter and are coming down,” Lighthizer said during the meeting.
Trump responded, “thank you, I know they are.”
