President-elect Trump has named two deputy directors of the new National Trade Council he announced last month, one to steer “Buy American, Hire American” efforts and the other focused on the defense industrial base.

The council, to be led by economics professor Peter Navarro, will advise Trump “on innovative strategies in trade negotiations, coordinate with other agencies to assess U.S. manufacturing capabilities and the defense industrial base, and help match unemployed American workers with new opportunities in the skilled manufacturing sector,” as Trump said in a December statement.
That announcement also identified a “Buy America, Hire America program to ensure the President-elect’s promise is fulfilled in government procurement and projects ranging from infrastructure to national defense.”
