Editors note: Coming soon. Huawei surveillance from inside your car.

Huawei‘s HarmonyOS is one of the most talked about topics in tech at the moment, and the possibilities for it are endless. In fact, right now we’re already hearing rumors about HarmonyOS making rounds on Weibo. According to the rumors, Geely, a popular car manufacturer in China, has partnered with Huawei to expand the usage of HarmonyOS even further.

Now, Geely already has their own GKUI running on their car, which means if these rumors are true, there are two possibilities here. The first is that Geely is planning to drop their current GKUI in favor of Huawei’s HarmonyOS. The second option is that Geely will work with Huawei to allow their GKUI cars to communicate better with devices powered by HarmonyOS.

If this is true, then this is a fairly big deal since it’s the first time since we’ve seen HarmonyOS on a non-Huawei device. On top of that, Geely is a big name in China, which means Huawei has the reach and connections to make the operating system a more mainstream option. HarmonyOS is after all an IoT operating system, so the more partners they get the better.

Mr Lu pointed out that when Harmony OS was unveiled, Huawei’s product roadmap included devices like TVs, smart watches, in-vehicle display units and some of its PCs. Smartphones and tablets were noticeable omissions and this was by design Out of this list, two of the products are already down, and we’re eager to see what’s coming next.
