Ross: U.S. ‘not in a position to offer anything in return’ on NAFTA

The U.S. is “not in a position to offer anything in return” to Mexico and Canada in the NAFTA renegotiation talks, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said on Wednesday – calling the U.S. approach a “tough sell.”

In brief remarks on CNBC, Ross was asked about the state of the negotiations and whether he was optimistic that a new deal could be struck.

“I think there will be a proposal that we can take to the president,” he allowed. “Whether it will be a proposal that we’ll recommend, and whether it will be a proposal that he will accept, are different stories.”
