Key proponents and opponents of the Trans-Pacific Partnership have differing counts of House Democratic support for the trade deal as both sides ready for a battle this fall under the assumption that a lame-duck vote will occur.

House Ways & Means Trade Subcommittee Chairman Dave Reichert (R-WA) told President Obama’s Export Council (PEC) on Sept. 14 that in addition to the 28 House Democrats who voted for trade promotion authority in 2015, “an additional 12 Democrat votes” may end up supporting TPP.
But Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), who is leading the charge against TPP in the House, that same day at an anti-TPP press conference said the 160 House Democrats who voted against TPA will also vote against TPP.
DeLauro, flanked by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) and Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), also warned that the administration is dead-set on holding a lame-duck vote and would be willing to twist as many arms as necessary to secure the votes to get TPP passed.
