North County Biotech/Biomed Innovators to Address
Current Trends/Challenges at Dec. 4th Event

SAN MARCOS, Ca, November 25, 2014 – Six North County San Diego biotech /biomed executives, whose innovative companies have capitalized on the brand promise of the region, will address the complexities and current trends in their growing fields at Innovation to Market to be held on December 4, 2014 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at California Center for the Arts.

The event is being hosted by San Diego North Economic Development Council (SDNEDC) and will include: Dr. Joseph Smith, chief medical officer, West Health Institute; Puneet Sarin, vice president and general manager, Leica Biosystems;  James Kasselmann, senior plant director, biologics, Gilead Sciences, Inc.;  Ellen Morgan, CEO, Agility Clinical; and Dr. Jeffrey Benabio, physician director of healthcare transformation, Kaiser Permanente. Dr. Carlos Nunez, chief medical officer, CareFusion will moderate the panel.

The North County region is home to diverse, robust and innovative industry clusters from biotech/biomed, sports and active lifestyle, connected tourism, defense, manufacturing, education, medical devices and more,” said Carl Morgan, chief executive officer, SDNEDC.  “Employment in the biotech/biomed field has grown by over 30 percent in North County from 2007 to 2013.”

Some of the questions the panelists will discuss include: what technologies in the next five years will they expect to have the biggest impact on their industry; what skills or areas of expertise are they seeking and are they having difficulties finding unqualified applicants; what research institutions (public or private) partners with them to contribute to their success; what advice would they give to current college students seeking these industries for careers; and what are the strengths and weaknesses of North County and the Carlsbad/78 Corridor as a Bio Technology and Life Sciences hub?
