WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Coalition for a Prosperous America (CPA) proudly supports the nomination of Jamieson Greer to serve as the next United States Trade Representative (USTR). Ahead of the Senate Finance Committee confirmation hearing today, CPA urges swift approval of his nomination, recognizing his proven commitment to defending American industry and advancing policies that protect the American market for people and businesses that make and grow things here.
CPA submitted a formal statement of support to the Senate Finance Committee, urging Greer’s confirmation and highlighting his leadership in implementing policies that protected U.S. manufacturers, farmers, and ranchers from being displaced by imports.
“Jamieson Greer is exactly the kind of USTR America needs—one who puts American workers, manufacturers, and farmers first, rather than blindly following the failed free trade policies that have decimated our industrial base for decades,” said Zach Mottl, Chairman of CPA. “His work during the first Trump administration was instrumental in shifting USTR away from the outdated, special-interest-driven approach of sacrificing American industries for so-called ‘market access’ abroad. Instead, he helped implement strategic tariffs and outcome-based trade agreements that delivered real benefits for U.S. producers and workers.”
During his tenure as Chief of Staff to former USTR Robert Lighthizer, Greer played a critical role in implementing Section 301 tariffs against China, pushing back against decades of unchecked import penetration, and negotiating bilateral steel and aluminum agreements that protected domestic industries. Unlike previous trade officials who adhered to a failed, so-called “rules-based” system that left U.S. producers at a disadvantage, Greer championed outcome-oriented trade policy that put the interests of American manufacturers and workers ahead of multinational corporate interests.
“America cannot afford to return to the failed trade ideology that prioritizes corporate globalism over American prosperity,” Mottl continued. “The policies that Greer helped shape during the first Trump administration proved that tariffs and strategic trade measures work—they led to increased domestic investment, reshoring of supply chains, and greater economic security. At a time when America faces unprecedented economic and geopolitical challenges, we need a USTR who understands how to wield tariffs and trade enforcement as tools to reindustrialize the nation. CPA and our members are confident that Jamieson Greer is that leader, and we urge the Senate to quickly confirm him.”
CPA has long advocated for a trade policy that prioritizes the American market for American enterprise, and fair treatment for foreign investors from friendly nations, namely the equal right to make new investments in the American market and compete for American business by the payment of American wages. As China continues to exploit trade loopholes, Mexico serves as a backdoor for Chinese goods, and other nations flood the U.S. market with subsidized imports, it is imperative that USTR is led by a trade negotiator who will stand firm against these threats.
“On behalf of CPA and our members who are committed to producing and investing in the U.S., we strongly support Jamieson Greer to lead USTR and restore a pro-American trade policy that prioritizes American workers, manufacturers, and farmers over the interests of multinational corporations,” said Jon Toomey, President of CPA. “His leadership during the first Trump administration was instrumental in steering USTR away from the failed trade policies of the past—policies that offshored jobs and sacrificed U.S. industry for empty promises of market access. The Senate should swiftly confirm him to ensure America’s trade policies once again serve our national interests.”
