CPA Applauds Clarios, Responsible Battery Coalition Member Company, for Leadership in Sustainable, Secure Battery Supply Chains

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Coalition for a Prosperous America (CPA) recognized Clarios, a founding member of the Responsible Battery Coalition (RBC), for its outstanding leadership in advancing sustainable battery manufacturing, recycling, and circular economy solutions. These efforts contribute meaningfully to U.S. industrial strength and critical minerals security.

As highlighted in the Oval Office at the White House this week, Clarios played a part in the launch of ‘Project Vault,’ a major initiative to strengthen U.S. critical minerals security and safeguard American battery supply chains from global disruptions. The Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM Bank) Chairman & President John Jovanovic touted the importance of the U.S. critical minerals stockpile. Project Vault is officially a supply chain security initiative that establishes the U.S. Strategic Critical Minerals Reserve, an independently governed public-private partnership that will store essential raw materials in facilities across the U.S, and support manufacturing jobs.

Clarios’ work was recently celebrated by the RBC for its innovation in battery recycling and circular production models, including being highlighted for its achievements in responsible battery lifecycle management. The company’s track record – from winning the World Sustainability Awards’ “Circular Economy Award” to pioneering systems that recycle up to 99 percent of battery materials – exemplifies the kind of forward-thinking manufacturing that strengthens America’s economic foundations while reducing dependence on foreign raw materials.

“Clarios’ leadership within the Responsible Battery Coalition clearly demonstrates how American industry can build sustainable, resilient supply chains that benefit workers, consumers, and national economic security,” said CPA President Jon Toomey. “Their commitment to recycling and circular economy practices not only prevents environmental harm but reinforces essential U.S. production capacity at a time when strategic resource independence matters more than ever.”

CPA is proud of its partnership with the Responsible Battery Coalition, a growing collective of manufacturers, national security experts, academics, and organizations committed to the responsible management of today’s batteries and those of tomorrow – advancing responsible production, transport, use, reuse, recycling, and resource recovery across battery technologies. RBC’s priorities include promoting life-cycle battery management and developing best practices for next-generation technologies, meaning: a battery that meets a specific need efficiently and effectively, is properly managed across its life-cycle to prevent harm to people or the environment, and is reused where possible and ultimately recycled.

In 2025, the RBC launched the Critical Minerals Leadership Roundtable, led by two-star military leaders, to advocate for strengthening America’s supply chains for battery materials.

Clarios’ accomplishments underscore how industry innovation aligns with broader national priorities:

  • Circular economy leadership. Clarios’ operations recycle thousands of used batteries each hour, creating closed-loop systems that reintegrate recovered materials into new products – reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions compared with virgin material production.

  • Critical minerals resilience. Through its lifecycle management practices, Clarios recovers valuable materials domestically, helping reduce reliance on foreign sources of key metals and strengthening U.S. manufacturing security.

As global competition for battery technologies and critical minerals intensifies, securing domestic supply chains and fostering sustainable industrial practices are essential to American prosperity and national security. Clarios’ leadership, both as an individual company and as a champion within the RBC, demonstrates how U.S. industry can rise to that challenge.

“CPA strongly believes that responsible industrial leadership goes hand-in-hand with economic sovereignty and market resilience,” Toomey added. “Clarios and members of the Responsible Battery Coalition exemplify how private sector innovation can complement public policy objectives; from sustainable manufacturing to competitive, secure supply chains that benefit all Americans.”

CPA continues to advocate for policies that strengthen American manufacturing, reduce vulnerabilities in key supply chains, and promote economic strategies that prioritize U.S. workers and producers.
