Sen. Bernie Sanders, who has been at the forefront of the fight against the president’s trade agenda, at the debate blasted not just TPP but all trade agreements “over the last 30 years.”
“I believe in trade, but I do not believe in unfettered free trade,” he said. “I believe in fair trade which works for the middle class and not just large multinational corporations.” He added that he was “on the picket line” against the North American Free Trade Agreement because he “didn’t believe for a second” all of the claims that lots of jobs would be created.
“Of course I believe in trade, but the current trade agreements over the last 30 years were written by corporate America,” resulting in the loss of millions of jobs, he said.
