WASHINGTON — The Coalition for a Prosperous America (CPA) applauded the White House’s announcement that it is creating a Made in America Council, a new interagency effort to help coordinate and advance the Made in America Office’s work across the entirety of the Federal Government. The Council will seek to advance the administration’s Made in America policies by by creating a regular forum and community for agencies to collaborate as they work to strengthen the use of Federal procurement and Federal financial assistance to increase reliance on domestic supply chains and reduce the need for waivers over time.
“CPA is proud to represent the American companies and workers that are committed to making things right here in America,” CPA Chair Zach Mottl said. “We look forward to continuing to work with Made in America Director Celeste Drake, who has been a longtime champion for American workers. For too long, government purchasing staff have skirted Buy America rules through waivers and loopholes to buy goods made offshore. A whole-of-government approach across agencies is needed to make sure all staff comply. We strongly support the Biden administration’s efforts to ensure that the U.S. government is prioritizing goods made in America and America’s workers.”
Last July, CPA applauded the Biden administration for proposing a new rule to increase American-made content in federal purchases and bolster critical supply chains. The effort builds upon the Biden administration’s efforts to modernize and strengthen implementation of the Buy American Act. Additionally, CPA supported new guidance issued by the Biden administration last year that seeks to maximize the use of goods, products, and materials produced in, and services offered in the United States. It also requires the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to establish the Made in America Office (MIAO), which will focus on increasing opportunities for domestic sourcing and reducing the need for waivers from federal Buy American laws.
