NEW HEAVYWEIGHT STEPS INTO FIGHT FOR A ‘PROSPEROUS’ NATION

Editor’s note. CPA member Roger Simmermaker makes the case that all domestic producers should become CPA members.

If you’re looking for a successful and influential organization that fights against the establishment and the media and their globalist, free trade-leaning agenda, then you should look into the Coalition for a Prosperous America (CPA).

The CPA is a non-profit, bipartisan organization. that represents a coalition of 4.1 million households of manufacturers, farmers & ranchers, and labor groups working for a national strategy to eliminate the trade deficit, create good-paying jobs, and deliver broadly shared prosperity to America.

What makes the CPA so influential? It is welcome at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the Department of Commerce, the White House, and Congress.

When President Trump imposed tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, the old economic models espoused by globalist free traders predicted massive job losses. The CPA has proved that those old economic models were wrong.

Even the New York Times, in a November 18, 2018 article titled “The Land That Failed to Fail,”  basically admitted supporters of globalization and engagement with China were wrong. The article stated, “Western economists doubted that innovation could take place under China’s rigid bureaucracy. They were proved wrong. The world thought it would change China, but China’s success has been so spectacular that China has changed the world.”

Instead, the administration’s economic policies have resulted in the largest and most sustained manufacturing job growth since 1998. The U.S. has added 296,000 new factory jobs since October 2017 and 32,000 manufacturing jobs in October 2018 alone. In November 2018, U.S. manufacturing added 27,000 workers, the same month GM announced 14,000 layoffs in North America (about 2,500 of those job cuts will be made in Canada).

Ironically, a group called “Americans for Free Trade” recently reported in an article posted on thehill.com that import tariffs paid by businesses in October were $6.2 billion – the highest in United States history.

The CPA is working hard to close common-sense loopholes like the obscure statute that allows imported goods valued at less than $800 to avoid tariffs. Online retailers like Amazon and Chinese-owned Alibaba want to bring boatloads of products to warehouses in Mexico, then use e-commerce to flood America’s market to undercut domestic producers.

CPA members include small, patriotic companies like Liberty Tabletop, the only American-made flatware company; Atlas Tools, whose business is increasing even with higher production costs due to import tariffs on steel; and Penn United, a domestic maker of precision components and products. My company How Americans Can Buy American is also a proud member of the CPA. Larger group members include the AFL-CIO and Ford Motor Company.

Michael Stumo, CEO of the Coalition for a Prosperous America, was on a White House call recently and noticed several powerful and pro-free trade groups made their case for zero tariffs on imports and advocated more cheap and subsidized goods from China. These groups include National Retail Federation, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Consumer Technology Corp. (whose chairman is from Sony Electronics of Japan) and the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers (which represents mostly foreign auto companies). These organizations could care less about our American jobs, farmers, ranchers, and companies.

Simply put, the CPA is the only organization strong enough to combat the above-listed groups and others representing the import lobby on trade. But we need to become stronger.

The Beijing-based and state-party run People’s Daily newspaper recently honored Jack Ma, founder of the China-based Alibaba, for furthering the modernization of China’s economy. Jack Ma was identified by the People’s Daily as a member of the Communist party.

Becoming stronger is the only way we can prevent China from taking the lead in advanced technology (including militarily) and becoming the world’s number one economic superpower. If that ever happens, our great nation will likely experience rapid decline and cease being great. We simply cannot afford to stand idly by and let that happen. Our members already see business come back from China. Wages are rising for the first time in a very long time. We cannot go backward.

Become a bigger part of the solution. Become a supporter of the Coalition for a Prosperous America.

MADE IN AMERICA.
